by Harrythebannister (Posted Nov-20-09 17:04)
Yeah I agree James. It's strange but I've listened to The Beatles albums thousands of times over the past 30 years or so but it was only recently I noticed this. John was definitely the driving force in the early days with Paul singing lead on perhaps 2 or 3 songs per album. The changing point is probably Rubber Soul and Revolver when for me Paul becomes an equal with John.

Also about this time John's voice softens considerably. Compare "I'm Only Sleeping" for example with say "Anytime At All". Whereas Paul developed as a singer. By the late sixties Paul was undoubtably the driving force of the band in my opinion and John's interests lay elsewhere.

by mr h atom (Posted Nov-20-09 14:52)
well, shirley...i think that rather than remix the set lists (add on/take off), dear ole maccy ought to take a page from many of his peers, and remaster the whole catalogue: with an extra cd (or two) that should include live recordings, demos and unreleased (but otherwise completed) songs from the distinct era of the albums creation

put them out with a wee bit o' fanfare (and an insanely low price) and see what happens

by mr h atom (Posted Nov-20-09 14:33)
...'cause he should, if he's being an honest artist, be spoiling us with all the (live)songs he's never released, instead of, mostly, rehashing what's been done (and released) ad infinitum: all the concerts that actually have something different....
early '70's, rockshow (which COULD/WOULD be a better, more clearly different alternative), the '79 tour...
a 2-3 disc set, from all the eras of all the songs NOT already in one-two TEN already present live versions...

this is all repetative mumbo, despite the inclusion of one or three songs, as the old richman gordman ad said: it's the same thing !

when your set list is so ingrained in your psyche that you're, basically, just going thru the motions, re-articulating the same thing you've done for the last 10-20 years...
and when most of us know he could easily stretch himself, and do better...
it's more than a bit annoying

i've spent the last week on a different site, and, there, i've viewed many live performances (and more than quite a few unreleased cuts: revisited a few long lost favorites, as well (thanks JMF !)) that yet another repeat is just frustrating as all get out: if the 'fans' so direly need a representative of thier time seeing him recently: pick up back in the u.s.(world) and hum the one or two songs not done from this go...
some of us, who know (an expect) better, are unwilling to genuflect over repeat season...

for me, as a entertainment choice of the moment, i just can't justify the $20: i'll go with the new sting album, the new stephen king book, a few movies with the fam...
a nice dinner out with just the wife & i...
and this one'll go on the christmas/birthday list...

maybe i'll get it- maybe i won't: in a way..i already have this, don't i ?

by Jeff in Ohio (Posted Nov-19-09 14:06)
Klass - thanks! I'm rather quiet and private about playing for other people, so it took alot of courage for me to post my stuff on youtube. So I appreciate your positive comments. Lady Madonna happens to be a song that I feel I've got pretty solid. My piano is being tuned next Tuesday so then I'll record it and post to youtube. I think if you subscribe to my youtube channel (MusicAndWeather) you'll be notified when I post something new? I think it works that way.

There's a person on youtube that does a great job of teaching Beatles piano songs, and i feel he's 99% accurate to the original recordings. His youtube name is "PianoJohn113" if you want to check it out.

Anyway, thanks.

Since donations are way down and I was worried we would have to stay off-air for a while as the current level of donations do not nearly cover the costs. I surely hope listeners do not assume, that I will continue to pay for everything. I know I do not do enough funds campaigning and some are simply not aware at how close we are at times like now to shutting down the station.

And it has the original artists. It shouldn't be too hard to find.

That particular album is actually a Beatle Tribute/ Sound-a-like band recording those songs the way they think The Beatle's would have done them.
by bonovox66 (Posted Nov-14-09 16:07)
I'm still not convinced of the use of auto-tune. I hear what everyone is saying about Paperback Writer, but I still think this is just the way it sounded. I do recall thinking that the backing vocals sounded a bit digitized during the DC show but just thought that was the way they were singing it. I'm sure some studio wizardry was used, of that I have no doubt. But I still think all the complaints are just a matter of bad mixing in general and not auto-tune. If Paul was using auto-tune or any sort of tone-fixer I would think he could afford to use a better version, because the digital voices everyone keeps talking about are too bad to have been missed or done on purpose.

And you beat me to it Awesomeman. I was just about to post this video.

Please!

Its not that I'm totally against someone 're-imagining' Yellow Submarine, I think it could be done. But not this way and not w/ Zemeckis. Sure I love Forest Gump, but name me a good movie he has made since then? Polar Express was barely watchable, and Beowulf was about the worst movie I've seen n recent memory. And lets not even mention his new Christmas Carol.

Let someone at Pixar have a crack at it or maybe Gary Goldman he has done some of the best animated work of the last thirty years. Or if we really want to try something new what about Hayo Miyazaki.

The deluxe version includes a bonus DVD of his marquee performance on the Ed Sullivan Theater, for David Letterman’s “Late Show” from July 15, 2009.

Being I was in attendance on 53rd St to view this historical musical moment, having a memento of this event’s audio on CD from Piccadilly Circus was something I was looking forward to, and I ordered this disc before the official set was announced. I’m glad I did, since this audio is not offered up separately, making this CD a nice companion to the legitimate set.

Taken from the online webcast/”Late Show” broadcast, Piccadilly Circus presents the entire live set (the “Late Show” broadcast only “Get Back” and “Sing The Changes”), totalling 7 songs. These are presented here in the same awful webcast mix that presents Paul’s voice mixed too far back for my tastes. When he talks to the crowd between songs it feels like an audience tape. Distant and a bit muffled. I’m sure knowing it was going to be booted off the CBS website, it’s fidelity is compromised purposely. Otherwise, the band is tight and Paul is having a grand time. Being there, it was fun to watch a mostly surprised crowd. Looking up at some of the older buildings nearby, there were people literally hanging out of the windows to view this once in a lifetime event.

It was a 7 song set, so Piccadilly Circus includes an audience source that offers “tuning” and some conversation between Paul and the audience before the band starts the set. He’s loose and enjoying himself. It does include the full “Let Me Roll It/Foxy Lady” that was edited for broadcast. For me though, audience tapes annoy me with prominent hand clapping from fans standing too close to the mike and those incessant and clear “Woo’s!” from the male fans. It just gets under my skin. This part is for the completest. I’ll stick to the first 7 tracks that are soundboard quality even though “Foxy Lady” is edited out of the webcast.

Otherwise, it’s a nice companion to the upcoming legit version on DVD, but one that I hope receives an improved mix. For me personally, it’s a nice memento of a rare live Paul performance on the streets of NYC that I was able to be a part of. (The picture on the disc is from the point of view of the band facing where I was standing on 53rd St . I'm a speck there somewhere!)

Tracks:

Soundboard Source

1-Get Back
2-Sing The Changes
3-Coming Up
4-Band On The Run
5-Let Me Roll It
6-Helter Skelter
7-Back In The USSR

Audience Source

8-Tuning
9-Get Back
10-Sing The Changes
11-Coming Up
12-Band On The Run
13-Let Me Roll It/Foxy Lady
14-Helter Skelter
15-Back In The USSR

To view set, click on link:

http://www.giginjapan.com/scan189/paul- ... ooftop.htm

Regards,
Beatle Bob

It was just called McCartney and although perhaps cheaply made I nevertheless thought it an excellent piece. He was very complimentray of the other Beatles - as Paul has always been depsite the others sometimes being harsh towards him. I use to always be saddneed when John or George would make an unfair swipe at Paul. Thankfully deep down they loved each other and seem to outgrow those rather nasty tendecies.
