Juanita Lake is a lovely mountain lake in the Klamath National Forest 15 miles south of the California border. It is an easy drive from Klamath Falls. The area does not get a lot of snow, and the tour includes a long uphill climb. Still, the lake is exceptionally stunning in winter and there are views of Mount Shasta and Mount McLoughlin along the trails. Klamath National Forest winter recreation brochures describe groomed ski trails here. Forest Service personnel occasionally use a snowmobile and grooming sled to set ski tracks for classic skiing, but it does not happen often. When there is adequate snow, Forest Service personnel may be committed to other duties. Check with the Goosenest Ranger District for current grooming information. Track Quality: Fair classic skiing, no skatingThe memorial, two huge pylons that can be seen for miles around, was created in memory of the April 1917 battle of Vimy Ridge The Battle of Vimy Ridge was one of the opening battles in a larger British campaign known as the Battle of Arras during the First World War. It is also considered a major event in Canadian history for the key role the Canadian Corps of First Army played in the attack. , a costly victory for Canada.
