News article: Is McCartney Set on a Re-Master of His Catalog? - Sunday, March 21, 2010 MACCA-Central, The Paul McCartney FUNsite

Recently most of Paul McCartney's solo catalog that was release for digital download on Amazon, iTunes and elsewhere are now unavailable. The exceptions are recent releases since and including Memory Almost Full, Electric Arguments, Amoeba's Secret and Good Evening New York City. The downloads links are still acttive, see for Red Rose Speedway .

This McCartney digital download catalog that was mastered from earlier re-masters meant for CDs in the early 90's. This Red Rose Speedway digital download link still up on Amazon was from a 1993 digital remaster. My guess is Paul wants all his stuff redone, remastered with today's technology as what Apple did with all The Beatles catalog. EMI were not willing or could not do it, so he's made a deal with a company who will. It may be Hear Music the same label Memory Almost Full was released on. A coincidence? Further evidence of the Hear Music connection is the new March 30 2010 release of both Wingspan and All The Best on the Hear Music label.

Another player is the London-based label last year released Electric Arguments, One Little Indian. See my article Re-packaging and Re-releasing Vintage McCartney Solo Material. So as this plays out for the time being we have lost digital downloads of much of Paul's catalog but the wait will be rewarded with what may seem to be a complete re-release of the entire McCartney catalog remastered with the absolute latest technology to equal or surpass that of the recently acclaimed Beatles digital release. That is a lot of music and a great deal of material to get through so will this release be an all in one or a series of albums at at time? Good question, but I would certainly prefer all at once.

I also think Paul will continue what he has always done. That is the tradition to give us fans bonus tracks of some kind either unreleased material or early takes of songs. Whether it be Hear Music, One Little Indian or some other player yet to surface, we will soon be treated to what many of us have been waiting for.

Long overdue. Hopefully they will have bonus tracks and videos like Ringo`s CD`s or like U2`s or Led Zep. Does anyone know if Paul actually participated in the new Shrek 4 movie in any capacity as reported earlier?

Well, if so, then I hope One little Indian is getting the bunch. Hear Music can have the compilations to sell with cookies and coffee. An indie label is perfect if McCartney wants to be in tune with what`s going on in music in the 10`s. To release his entire back catalog in a coffee chain, is a bit cheesy I think. It`s more `product` than music. : )

It would be really nice. When the `93 remasters came out I was a bit dissapointed, or not exactly dissapointed, but it wasn`t that much different. Of course, all this remastering stuff is a bunch of bullshit really, but with everyone doing it and The Beatles remasters setting a new standard you get used to a crisper sound on older recorded material. And everything not remastered suddenly sounds crap. If they include bonus material then I hope it`s on a CD 2. I`m not very fond of damo verions and songs having nothing to do with the album being tucked to the end. And I`ll buy it anyway. I don`t buy remasters because of bonus tracks, but because of the sound. My opinion though. I`m especially looking forward to "Venus and Mars", I think. If it`s going to be remasters. I`m talking like it`s going to happen here. And "London Town". Hey, I`m looking forward to them all ... if it`s gonna happen. : )
