Report by Mats Henrikson, Gothenburg: Great Concert! Critics always seem to try hard to find things to complain about, especially when they are reviewing Paul McCartney (of course, you shouldn’t be rich, famous, knighted, a genius and happy at the same time…not in some Swedish tabloids like Expressen, anyway). But the truth is, no one on this planet can do what he does: - He plays 34 songs, and of those 30 or so each one would have been enough to build a whole career for any musician. - He has written those masterpieces himself (and partly with John Lennon, of course) - He performs the songs with an incredible and honest enthusiasm - He is 62, but sings with the same great voice he had at 25 (he sings better now than he has for the last 20 years). - The band members are really great players, and brilliant background singers Enough said; pop/rock concerts doesn’t get any better than this. If you have the opportunity, go and see the show. You won’t be disappointed!
Report by Markus Aberg, Stockholm: On the Gothenburg show last Saturday, after All Things Must Pass, Paul said "Thereīs always somebody saying `What about Ringo?`". Then he played the first verse and the first chorus of Yellow Submarine in a sing-along version with the audience. As there seemed to have been quite a lot of rain on the recent shows, he performed a short laidback number, before Lady Madonna, called something like "Mr Rain".
Report by Jimmie Rudolfsson: To sit down and write a review of a show by your biggest idol the day after it happend, isnīt an easy task. Like butterflies the thoughts are buzzing round my head. Itīs so much more than just the music that matters when your go to a show like this; the crowd, the venue, the people you are there with, but sometimes the music just speaks for itself. But on almost every level this was a show that Iīll always remember, especially emotionally.

But letīs take it from the top:
After a few delays the "pre-show" started. And I have to say that the little circus number was much better this year. It wasnīt as long this time and had more variations to it with a cool new soundmix of drumbeats, soundeffects and McCartney songs (Among the songs were; Oh Woman Oh Why, Mumbo and Temporary Secretary).

Then the circusartists drew a big curtain over the front of the stage so the audience couldnīt see, just guess what was behind it. The sound of live drums and electric guitarchords started to echo in the warm night... then the curtain falls by the wayside and then there they are, the band with Paul McCartney in the middle. As smiling as always, with his hofnerbass that was used in Candlestick Park in 1966 hanging over his shoulder. And so the concert begins with

Jet - A perfekt opener. Always a very powerfull livenumber that gets the audience on the floor off to a rocking start. Nice to hear a Wings number as the opening song. Something that hasnīt happend since 1976. GRADE: 5/5

Got to get you into my life - The magic continues with this RnB inspired Beatlesmoker. And the audience isnīt resting at all. What a fantastic song!! GRADE:5/5

Flaming pie - The strong opening set continues. Finally Macca plays more than one song from this fantastic album. The newspaper reporters didnīt have a clue but for us Macca maniacs itīs really great when he is digging up these lesser known solotracks. I think we all hope that for future tours McCartney will play more songs from the 70īs, 80īs and 90īs. GRADE: 5/5

All my loving - If the audience maybe werenīt on their feet on the last song they definetly were on this one. Personally I think this song should be put to rest for the next tour, but at the same time itīs one of those songs that surely can make a stadium cry out in beatlemania. GRADE: 4/5

Let me roll it - One of the evenings heaviest numbers but I wish Paul would select another favourite from the Band on the run album. Itīs saved from a lower grade by Abes thunderous drumming. He almost steals the spotlight from Paul sometimes. GRADE: 4/5

You won't see me - An obscure Beatle song that if performed live for the first time on this tour. Iīve always thought this song to be a bit lightweight compared to the other songs on Rubber soul, but in this liveversion it grows on you and becomes a real jewel! GRADE: 4/5

She's a woman - If there was a higher grade then her is where it should be. A personal favourite of mine and Paul doesenīt dissapoint. Unlike the acoustic version from 1991 this one is in the right tempo and the right key and is played with lotīs of energy and electric guitars. And god what a voice! This is something that is true for every song this evening I donīt think Iīve heard Macca sing this good since the late 70īs. This song takes me back to the first time I fell in love with it on the Hollywood Bowl album. One of the best songs of the evening. GRADE: 5/5

Maybe I"m amazed - A superb solonumber that this time doesnīt hit all the right spots It sounded a bit better and more soulful last tour. Great vocal though from Macca. GRADE: 4/5

The long and winding road - The only Beatlenumber that I think Paul and his latest band does not do that well. It sound a bit too heavy and a bit too fast. GRADE: 3/5

In spite of all the danger - Very obscure song from "pre fab four" days. But it still ha a certain charm and of course sounds much better than on the 1958 recording. This song starts of the Macca acoustic solo set. GRADE: 3/5

Blackbird - One of Pauls most beautiful 60īs songs but tonight it doesnīt reach out to the big crowd. Itīs better suited for small arenas or clubs. GRADE: 3/5

We can work it out - Here the crowd gets going again but this is a song that also should be retired next tour. GRADE: 3/5

Here today - This is the moment i broke down and cried. This Lennon tribute can be about anyone close to you and for me the thought wandered off to personal and motional levels and I couldnīt stop the tears from streaming down my face. Itīs in moments like this that you realise the greatness of Pauls most moving songs and the importance of having someone you love to comfort you. The concerts most emotinal number for me as were the next song. GRADE: 5/5

All things must pass - Maccas tribute to babybrother George. The tears keep on falling of the faces of people in the crowd including myself. The only thing letting the song down just a bit is the tempo which is a bit too fast. But Macca sings it very well indeed! He also included a verse and refrain of Yellow submarine after this one. Nice touch to all Ringo fans. GRADE: 4/5

Iīll follow the sun - The mood becomes lighter with this wonderful jewel from 1964. And even though the retakes of the song are rehersed the band are clearly having a good time. This is another highpoint of the evening that is performed live on this tour for the very first time. GRADE: 5/5

For no one - Forgotten supersong from one of the Beatles best albums. Never performd live either which gives it an extra energy. Songwriting at itīs finest with Paul behind the psycadelic keyboard. GRADE: 5/5

Calico skies - A personal favourite, and many people seems to know the song from last year. A wonderful message of live that should be felt in every heart in the stadium. GRADE: 4/5

Iīve just seen a face - A charming foottapper song from the Help album that gets the crowd going. Although it had more spark last year. 3/5

Eleanor Rigby - One of maccas best songs ever has never really sounded as good live as it does on record. GRADE: 3/5

Drive my car - Fantastic version that makes the 1993 liveversion sound like iīs played by a soft popgroup. Paul, this is a band that you must keep! GRADE: 5/5

Penny lane - flower power pop at itīs best. Funny when Macca misses a half verse. Now the crowd is really in the mood. GRADE: 4/5

Get back - Finally after 14 years Paul has dusted off this boogie rocker that destroys the crowd at Ullevi. An amazing version with great performances from the whole band. GRADE: 5/5

Band on the run - This is now played very much in itīs original tempo and thatīs a good thing. I donīt like the intro though that has been a part of the song since last year. That lowers the grade on an otherwise perfect live and sing-a-long number. GRADE: 4/5

Back in the USSR - Another slice of rock that works great tonight and gets the old people on the chairs going. Paul delivers a killer vocal. GRADE 4/5

Live and let die - Macca drives through the best Bondsong with a visual show of fire, bombs and fireworks. It suddenly feels like your in the middle of a Kiss concert. Great version! GRADE: 5/5

Iīve got a feeling - Finally we get to her this wonderful rocker delivered live by sir Paul. He seems to hold back a bit in his singing though which makes a bit less powerful. But itīs still a dream come true to hear it. Rusty sings the Lennon parts but fortunately doesnīt try to copy Johns voice. GRADE: 4/5

Lady Madonna: Doesnīt really work tonight. The tempo is too slow and the power is somewhat lost. The best live version of this song is still found on "Paul is live". Maybe this is another of those songs that need to be dropped on the next tour. 3/5

Hey Jude - Singalong time! Iīs always very cool to hear a full stadium sing the ending to this masterpiece. GRADE: 4/5

Yesterday - Arenīt we all a bit tired of this song? YES! And therefore itīs so very strange and wonderful that this song is one of the three numbers tonight that gets to me the most emotionally. It even made my girlfriends John Lennon cap wet with my tears. I donīt think this song has ever touched me so much like it did this wonderful summerevening. GRADE: 5/5

Let it be - here the swedish crowd shows that they donīt really match up to the Danish crowd from last year. Or maybe the reason why there arenīt so many lighters to be seen ist that the swedish people has stopped smoking? Well, I wouldnīt bet on that! Good version of a somewhat overplayed song. GRADE: 4/5

I saw her standing there - The exitement reaches a new high when this partysong is presented by Maccas usual count-in. Letīs just rock and roll all night! GRADE: 4/5

Helter skelter - Holy mother of god! This heavyweight hard rock song is performed live on this tour for the very first time and Paul gives it his all! It has never sounded so exiting, heavy and exploding. Not with the Beatles or any of the heavymetal bands that has made covers versions of the song. The coolest number of the evening! GRADE: 5/5

Sgt pepper (reprise)/The end - A worthy finale of a fantastic rock n roll evening with the greatest of them all. But on the next tour perhaps we can hope for the whole finishing Abbey Road medley? GRADE: 4/5

To end this review I can say that is was a supershow that in some ways was better than the last concert I saw in Denmark 2003. So many things made this concert stand out for me including setlist and the people around me. Especially one.

And thanks Paul for a macical evening!

TOTAL GRADE: 136/170
