Paul McCartney to receive Hollywood Walk of Fame star

Paul McCartney is finally getting his own star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.

The former Beatles band member's star will be unveiled in a ceremony on February 9. McCartney's star will be located alongside his fellow Beatles, Ringo Starr, George Harrison and John Lennon in front of the Capitol Records building located at 1750 N. Vine Street in Hollywood, California.

McCartney, 69, is the last member of the Beatles to get his own star. The Beatles were honored with a star on Dec. 25, 1998. A special committee selects which celebrities are eligible for a star, which costs recipients about $30,000.

John Lennon got the honor on Sept. 30, 1988, more than seven years after his death at age 40 in 1980.

George Harrison received his star on April 14, 2009, more than seven years after his death at age 58 in 2001 and McCartney was on hand for the Walk of Fame ceremony. Ringo Starr received his star on February 8, 2010, see a video of the ceremony here.

McCartney last made headlines in October, when he wed American heiress Nancy Shevell at a central London town hall.

Starr, the only other surviving member of the Beatles, attended the ceremony along with Barbara Walters, who is Shevell's cousin.

McCartney, who was born in Liverpool in 1942, started the Beatles with Lennon in late 1962. The group released iconic rock albums like of "Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band," "Abbey Road" and Let It Be." After the band officially broke up in 1970, McCarney released a solo album and began work with Wings alongside his then wife Linda McCartney.

The singer's wedding to Linda took place at Old Marylebone Town Hall in 1969. She died at age 56 in 1998 after battling breast cancer. The couple had three children - fashion designer Stella McCartney, 40, Mary, 42, James, 34.

The singer and songwriter has continued a solo music career since the 1980s. In 1996 he was knighted by Queen Elizabeth II, he was inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame in 1999, he received an honorary degree from Yale in 2008 and a Kennedy Center honor in 2010.

McCartney has also won 14 Grammys, most of which were given for his work with The Beatles.

Paul McCartney will be honored as MusiCares Person of the Year on Feb. 10, 2012. The event to honor McCartney is set to feature other performers such as Tony Bennett, Katy Perry, Coldplay and Neil Young.
