MACCAnews - REGINA: Paul McCartney just might be prepared to let ’em in at Mosaic Stadium.
The Leader-Post has confirmed that local organizers will hold a media conference Friday to announce a major concert event for Mosaic Stadium. The sources would not confirm the identity of the artist involved. However, McCartney announced five new concert dates Tuesday morning, including shows in Detroit, Chicago and Cincinnati that would fit into available openings at Mosaic Stadium.
The facility is available from July 10 through 29 — the Saskatchewan Roughriders host the Montreal Alouettes on July 9 with their next home game slated for July 30 against the Calgary Stampeders.
The Montreal Gazette reported Tuesday that McCartney will play the Bell Centre on July 26. This show hasn’t been confirmed by McCartney’s camp.
McCartney, who will turn 69 on Saturday, is scheduled to begin On The Run tour with two shows at Yankee Stadium in New York on July 15 and 16. Three other shows for the tour have been confirmed: Detroit’s Comerica Park (July 24), Chicago’s Wrigley Field (July 31) and Cincinnati’s Great American Ballpark (Aug. 4).
Joining McCartney on the tour will be Paul Wickens (keyboards), Rusty Anderson (guitar), Brian Ray (bass) and Abe Laboriel Jr. (drums). These four musicians have travelled with McCartney since 2002.
It’s been speculated that the On The Run tour will not differ greatly from last year’s Up And Coming tour. If that’s the case, McCartney will play hits from his discography with The Beatles, Wings and as a solo artist. There were 36 dates for the Up And Coming tour with one million tickets sold.
McCartney played the Bell Centre on Aug. 12, 2010 to a glowing review in the Montreal Gazette: “It was a wonderfully generous, perfectly paced and relentlessly energetic night of classics, delivered with 100-per-cent loud rock muscle as required and melodic sensitivity at every turn. It was a show with no flab or missteps.”
Tickets for the U.S. dates range from $19.50 to $250.
