AN auction to raise funds for Cleator Moor singer Annie Mawson’s Sunbeams Trust charity could feature a rare signature of Eleanor Rigby, donated by Sir Paul McCartney.
The item was expected to gain a six-figure bid at the auction at Rheged on November 7. The item was temporarily withdrawn last week as interest soared.
The auction is to raise funds for the Trust’s ambition of a centre at Penrith. Other items donated include a rare Lalique glass bison, a weekend in an 18th century French manor house and a platinum disc of Supertramp’s Breakfast in America donated by the band’s John Helliwell, who will be a guest on the night.
In the mid-80s the grave of an Eleanor Rigby was discovered at St Peter’s Parish Church in Woolton, Liverpool, close to where Paul and John Lennon first met in 1957. The name was the inspiration for the Beatles’ 1966 song.
