Those Pete Ham albums are un-real..at least 6 top 10 hits on them..along with some really beautiful ballads. His death was such a waste. One of the most underated singer/songwriter/guitarists ever. Other great acts include...The Odds,Coldplay,Matthew Sweet,YES,Pursuit of Happiness,Nick Drake, Crowded House,Blue Rodeo,Del Amitri,Kate Bush,Elvis Costello,Sting..and lot's more..

Although for me it's tough to specifically rank my fav artists, I can certainly rank them by groups (after 3 edits, I think I have it)

Dude!! You can't stomach The Who?? Wow man. Probably the best band currently on the planet. (Of course I'm excluding Macca and a few other solo artists.)

I like them live they play very well, but I just don't like their songs. I don't know what it is; post 1966 that is. Their music comes across to me as crafted, rather than inspired and then crafted. Also, I absolutely hate their instrument-smashing; what the hell's that all about? They've just rubbed me the wrong way except from their early composition, which are very good and rather punkish. Sorry man

I think ALL of The Who's stuff is awesome. From the beginning onward. And if you saw them on the Concert for NYC last October..wow! It's like they haven't slowed up at all. They definitely stopped the show.

But I gotta tell ya, I totally dig most of the stuff you listed though. Especially Dylan, Nirvana, Buddy Holly, Hendrix...well just about everything you named. I'm also glad you mentioned Deep Purple. Wow, what an amazing band! My brother saw them back in '85, and he still talks about it to this day. Said it was the most amazing concert he's ever seen.

I did see the Who at the concert for NYC - you're right, they were great, and I love watching them. BUT, I cannot sit at home and listen to them. Trust me, I've tried over and over as if I must somehow.

I'm glad you like some of the other stuff Ram1; Deep Purple, man they're amazing. I saw them live, but a couple years ago - without Ritchie Blakmoore; they're still amazing. I literally grew up listening to "Machine in th Head" and "Made In Japan" - what a freaking Live album that is!!
I forgot to mention Talking Heads and Blondie, they belong somewhere in there, but I don't want to edit again.
