Coldplay, Radiohead, etc.

here's a little anecdote:
A friend of mine (a "techno-beats" kind of guy who knows nothing about rock music) came over to my house while I was playing my guitar. He started asking me if I could play this really sick rock song, so he downloaded some song by coldplay. I forget which one it was.

I go "...Coldplay?!?!?" I almost started laughing. Annoyed that he thought Coldplay was rock music, I told him "umm...I'll play it to you later".

That is what I think of the mellow, smart, sounds of Coldplay.

Ok, I've had a beer...but I have no idea what your point is Maestri09? I can't tell if you like Coldplay or think they suck. Ok, maybe it was 2 beer. :wink:

Regarding Radiohead: I think that their real good albums have got to be "Pablo Honey" and "The Bends". Pretty much no fillers, excellent rockers (albeit some with downcast lyrics to boot, of course) in both.
"OK Computer" was OK. It has a bunch of fillers IMHO.

I liked Radiohead up untill their kid A album and then they lost me, they got too into themselves and started producing so called art music which alienated alot of their fans. As far as Cold play are concerned I think they could go very much the same way if they're not careful. The first two albums are classics though, and yes you do have to give them more than one listen before forming an opinion, they are growers

I liked Coldplay a lot about a year ago, but now they sound so boring to me. Maybe it's because bands like Franz Ferdinand, the Killers and the Scissor Sisters seem to have so much more energy. Also, I always thought Coldplay sounded like a Travis rip-off group. (Although I think it's U2 that Chris Martin is trying to copy) Nevertheless, I liked "Clocks" a lot and the video for "the Scientist" was really cool. "Yellow" never really did much for me. But the three above-mentioned bands could blow Coldplay off the stage any day.

I remember liking "Shiver" cause that song wasn't missing anything, it was complete and was good.
But, none of their other songs have impressed me as much as their "shiver" did.
In the video, the bass player it wearing a space invaders t-shirt i think.
And the accoustic guy, is wearing a Rolling Stones tongue t-shirt.

They are headlining the Austin City Limits music festival this fall along with Oasis, Franz Ferdinand, The Black Crowes, Wilco, et. al. Since it's only a couple of hours away from here, I'll probably go. (Mainly just to see Franz Ferdinand and Arcade Fire) I'll check Coldplay out, too. Maybe they have something a little more to offer live, who knows?
