Dave Ed. is a very accomplished guitarist. In 1984 he played on Paul's GMRT Broad Street and eventually got to meet George the following year, when organizing a Carl Perkins Special Trubute Show. Dave managed to convince George to appear on it, and all accounts say George loved going back on stage after so many years. George got back to business then, he got rekindled with friends like Clapton, Ringo and others on stage and eventually was convinced to appear on the Prince's trust concert in 1987. Again got in touch w/ Clapton, plus his recent friend (at the time) Jeff Lynne, Elton, Ringo...
The George decided to record a new album (after a 5 year silence) with those guys - the excellent throughout "Cloud Nine".
With his confidence restored, George met more and more rock friends (Clapton, Dylan, Petty, Lynne) and that led to the Wilburies concept.
So Edmunds was the spark in a chain of events that brought George back to his public as musician and composer.
