Precisely. Normally, though, I've had to take out a "classic" simply because it overran. But you're quite right. It's flow of the album that counts on that level. That's why I agonised so much over the order of the tracks. Chronological order narrowed it down a lot, but there were still a lot of possible combinations for it! When you consider:
2 tracks from AHDN (2 possible ways round for these)
3 from Help (6)
2 from RS (2)
3 from Revolver (6)
2 from Sgt P. (2)
2 from the White Album (2)
4 from LIB (24)
That makes 24x24x24 ways. So 576x24 = 144+1680+12000=13824 possible orders when sticking to it chronologically! (Double that if you just lump "Penny Lane" in with "Fool On The Hill" as MMT tracks!)
Fortunately, I was working with small numbers of tracks at once, and was able to get them into orders that made sense when fitted in between singletons.
And as for the non-inclusion of Love Me Do, it may be their first single but I am not that keen on it. The same verse repeated four times? Come ON!
