I have several favourites on With The Beatles. It Won't Be Long, All I've Got To Do, Til There Was You, and All My Loving. I'm not so 'into' the songs on side 2, but I do enjoy the covers of Roll Over Beethoven, You Really Got A Hold On Me, Money and Please Mr Postman. I guess side 2 is just as good as side 1, but because there are a lot of covers, maybe it just loses its gloss somewhat. Still, that was the way they did things in those days, and the covers are still every bit as energetic as the originals. I give With The Beatles 7.5/10.

Call me a worshipful twit, then a twit I be, but in my mind, I could never assign a number rating to most Beatle albums. Non-Beatles, yes, Beatles, no. Certainly not this one (or the US semi-equivalent, Meet The Beatles).

When it was released, there was nothing else out there that could even touch it. Others came along soon after, but WTB/MTB was a groundbreaker. It's remarkable when an album stands the test of time, but IMO, the preferred insight into an album is understood in the context of its times.

With the beatles shows also what better songwriters beatles was than stones. Stones wrote only 4 songs on their second album. Beatles wrote lots more, and I also love their covers "Roll over beethoven" and "Money".
