As far as I know, the "paperback writer" is just a made-up fictional character. I heard Paul tell the story about it in an interview one time. He went over to John's house, (or maybe John went over to Paul's flat), and Paul had this idea of writing a song like a "letter." Hence the "Dear sir or madam:"

Heard about it also. John even called Paperback Writer, "the son of Day Tripper", because of the familiar riff.

Well, I wouldn't go that far, but they are both good heavy rockin' guitar riffs!

It seems we're running out of people in Beatles songs, why don't we try naming the personalities in songs of Wings instead? I'll start off with the following:
1. Uncle Albert
2. Admiral Halsey
3. Picasso

your turn,

There's a mention of John Denver on "Richard Cory" well sung by Denny, Brains... a good Wings presentation on WOA indeed.

Peace.

Why did he sing 'John Denver'? Orignally, Paul Simon just sang 'Richard Cory'. You can hear the audience react to Denny singing 'John Denver'. Were they in Denver, or wherever John Denver was born? Did they do different names in every show, or was it always John Denver?
