Featuring four brand new songs as well as a few Beatles classics and some George Martin orchestral tunes, Yellow Submarine was the soundtrack to the hugely successful animated film of the same name. The four new songs - "Only A Northern Song", "All Together Now", "Hey Bulldog", and "It's All Too Much", were recorded during the same sessions that produced much of the material for another soundtrack - Magical Mystery Tour. As it turned out, the four songs were just about the only contributions from the Beatles; they didn't even perform their own voices. It was the final UK release to be issued in mono and stereo. The linear notes on the back of the US release were different than the UK version. The album was nominated for the 1969 Grammy for Best Original Score Written For a Motion Picture Or TV Special.

Mmm if i have to choose i would pic, Its all too much, no other Beatle song sound like this one...One of my fave Harrisongs...[:D]

Hey Bulldog rocks and It's All too much is an under rated gem from George. This has been superseded by the songtrack.

I think the band should have put out an EP of the new cuts and put Martins soundtrack songs on a seperate album.
The two standout songs are (off course) hey Bulldog and It´s all too much.

I also love The first of Martins songs, Pepperland!
But the 1999 release of Yellow Submarine is MUCH better soundwise!

What I love about this album: "Hey Bulldog", the two Harrisongs ("It´s Only a Northern Song" is probably his most under-appreciated song), the lyrics to "All You Need is Love" and Martin´s first three tracks ("Pepperland", "Sea of Time", "Sea of Monsters").

i have the newer version of this album u know the blue one with the yellow submarine on it, is the earlier version worth getting cos i've never been tempted to buy it?[:I]

Well Megs, there are some beautiful music by George martin on the earlier album that are worth getting i think. [:)]

George Martin's orchestral score for YELLOW SUBMARINE is brilliant stuff. As a child I hated it. As an adult with a wider musical pallate I find Martin's score well worth the cost of the CD.
