Peter Buck on Macca

I noticed in a recent issue of Mojo that Peter Buck of REM had wonderful things to say about Ram and other early Macca solo albums. I think he compared them to some of the Beach Boys stuff at the time. (Which was top-notch as well - one of Brian's best periods IMHO)

That's the strange paradox of REM - Buck has a sense of musical history, Stipe does not. I just wish Stipe would keep his mouth shut.

Stipe has slammed the Beatles so many times, that I lost interest in HIS music. He's entitled to his opinion, and I'm entitled to NOT buy their stuff.[:D]

I don't listen to them any more either, Steve. I do think that Peter Buck is quite a musicologist, however. He has a definite sense of roots and history.

PB sounds like a cool guy. I dont mind anyone having different tastes in music--it's just that Stipe, as you said, has no sense of history, and makes some of the most head-scratching comments. Macca has a HUGE sense of history, of course.

Bashing the Beatles is fine by me, but Stipe can't really do that, cause he obviously listened to them a lot, judging by his music.

Make music that's better than what the Beatles did, maybe then I'll listen to you, Stipey! Ain't never gonna happen... REM's nice, but nowhere near the Beatles.

you can tell peter buck is into that simple laid back sixties style just by hearing the way he plays,using simple chords and all; heck, he used a mandolin for a rock song.

Well you see... In 1993 When nirvana was almoust over Kurt Cobain have the proyect of making a new band with Michael Stipe... A new alternative band... Well nobody cares but is good data...
But yes i think that Stipe is a good guy but he have some things that are buring himself feeeets under...[;)]
