New Beatles project

Did anyone catch this in one of Mike's news articles "Something special happening", Paul mentioned a new Beatles project.
He was talking about having just listened to this new project of all the Beatles albums being redone using "5.1 surround sound."
That sounds amazing.

none. I agree with megs. I'm sure Paul is right when he says they sound great, but I couldn't afford to replace a catalogue like that.
I think we will be getting a lot of Beatles goodies this year anyway.[:)]

New formats, new formats, new formats. Hmmmm. Everybody's going to 5.1 now. Pet Sounds is about to be reissued in 5.1. So is Elvis - 30#1 Hits. I just don't know if it's worth it. I mean, what's the format going to be 5 years from now? I will admit that I like the stereo mix of Pet Sounds better than the mono mix, so I might also like the 5.1 mix. The problem is they keep releasing the next format and charge a higher price. They say once they become mainstream, the price will come down. I'm still waiting on the price of CDs to come down...[|)]
And as usual, Sony has to do their own thing. They have SACD audio, which is different than 5.1 and requires a special Sony SACD player. It's frustrating.[:(!]

On a brighter note, almost all DVDs are formatted with 5.1 sound. So, if you buy a live DVD or a video collection DVD, you can get your 5.1 sound that way. [:)]

Ya know I was reading an interview of George Martin last year and George said you have to have special 5.1 surround sound equipment in order to enjoy those 5.1 recordings.

If the BEATLES catalog(and perhaps the MACCA catalog also)were remastered,I'd have to consider it. But then there is DVD Audio,SACD,5.1,and whatever else might come along. Who knows what there will be in 5 years. Then again I might not be here,so if something really good comes along I'll go for it and enjoy it.[:D]
