Ahh..they are Synth and keyboard laden, so as to attract a certain element. Those that like Quality Rock that actually blows. [:D]

There is a synth element, but the synths in Foreigner's stuff are very artfully done most of the time. As a rule I prefer natural sounding stuff, especially pianos, but Foreigner are the exception. And ABBA, I guess.

Foreigner did outsell Led Zep and all the other bands on the label. I don't think people fully grasp the popularity of Foreigner around that time. True, most critics call it Corporate rock and very commercial but most music from that time period was very much that way. Bands like Foreginer, Journey, Reo Speedwagon filled a serious void in music that existed from the decline of punk (1981) to the formation of the kind of pop new wave (1985) with the advent of U2, REM, Tears for Fears, etc - a new genre of music creeped up and many of the bands of corporate rock (Journey, Foreigner) broke up. Clearly, not a very innovative time for music, but, there's no denying that the corporate rock period of music in particular Journey and Foreigner put out some seriously decent pop records....Open Arms, I want to know what love is, Waiting for a girl like you, Urgent, Don't stop believeing - while seriously commercial and dated today - were outstanding pop records for the time

Doesn't mean they are better than the Beatles, or anyone else for that matter.

Right, Steve. Exactly. I guess I'm "licking your Londons" now, but you are exactly right. Who cares how many albums a group sells? Doesn't mean they are any greater than anybody else. Celine Dion and Jay-Z are often number 1 on the charts. Does that make them better than The Beatles or Jimi Hendrix? Um no.
