mccartney 2
ram
memory almost full
wings over america
press to play

:? ... hey ? wait ?

that's...that's pretty much the same as my top five !?!?!

...'course...it should go without saying, but...there are quite a few more 'can't live without'...or, at least (maybe), 'wouldn't really want to live without' albums...

but i'm limited by the OP....

...like...pretty much all the rest...yeah, they're all pretty good stuff :-D

except maybe POP...WATSOS...GMRTB....ummm...they're all...OK-ish...but that might...JUST MIGHT be it...

come to think of it...none of those are that offensive...no, not really

aw...what the heck...mccartney is one of a handful of artists that i pretty much enjoy, to one extent or another, every stinking album he/they've put out...

so, those five up there...at the top ??

they're the 'go to' albums, that's for sure...

To be brutally honest-I could live without any Macca album or any other album at all if that was the choice
but...........
I wouldn t like to live without music and among the music I hold dearest are a few Macca items
maybe...
McCartney
Ram
Band on the Run
Wings over America
New

I lived without NEW for close to 50 years....so I know I can live without that one. :-h

The ones at the start of his musical journey without his best three mates stll resonate the most with me. In no particular order........

Ram
Red Rose Speedway
Wild Life
McCartney

Some of his later albums such as MAF, NEW, and Chaos might be better albums overall, they don't have that organic homespun feel of the early ones.

Ram
Memory Almost Full
Chaos and Creation in the Back Yard
Flaming Pie
Band on the Run

I want to say New belongs here, but I've already selected three latter day works. ~X(

hey, LB...i get that !!

but as a fellow critter who's haunted the macca woods from the near beginning, may i suggest that that reasoning may very well be why others choose the way they do...'frinstinz, here's my path...

first up was ram (a gift)...then V&M (bought in late '76)...then BOTR ( mid '77)...then LT (literally bought it just weeks before BTTE was released)...with BTTE being my first (of many and nearly every) day 'n date new release buy...

M1 ?? was bought in the summer of '80...

if it seems like i completely passed over both WL and RRS...it's because both were bought in the mid '80's, in cassette form, in a bargain bin...in fact, just before the highly underrated PTP, if'n i remember right...

being way out of sync from i'd been hearing, and not getting (in retrospect) the progression of sound that they clearly fall into...i couldn't quite grasp what i was hearing...

so i let them flounder that way for most of the next 20 years...until a little british bird (and, sadly, and aussie one...yo, kyle :salute ) sang in my ear and i became enlightened...

for me, and probably a few others...we may not necessarily have lived that initial trajectory of 1st lp to 2nd lp...and on and on in that order...many have probably not had the pleasure of following that progression of sound from the beginning...and that alone might effect our thinking

i, for one, can easily see why...

for by not engaging them in direct order one might possibly feel a sense of displacement upon stumbling into those earlier, more organic works: i did !

and when compared to his other, newer works (which continue an artistic progression (all for the good, i might add))...that primitive, from-the-heart, homespun sound (which does make them so charming and alluring)...coming, as it does, right after the high sophistication of the latter Beatle works, could easily be offputting...

or, at the very least, might have a dampening effect on one who is expecting a much different sound having come into all this at a much later time

an eclectic answer to a question not proposed !! :-D
