Top 10 Non album/Non A Side Single songs

Postby oobujoobu1971 » Wed Mar 12, 2014 3:28 pm

What's your top 10 McCartney songs which for whatever reason didn't make it on to a studio album or a single A side?

Maybe something he left in the vaults until the archive collection release, or a bootleg you've always loved, or an alternate version of something familiar that you always thought should have been the official released version, or something that was shoved away as a B side?

1. Oh Woman, Oh Why - Absolutely LOVE this song, I guess the timing was just wrong to make it on to either Wildlife or Ram, but wow, what a tune, and a stonkingly good guitar sound.
2. Sally G - Again probably just the wrong timing to make it on to an album, but a fantastic sing a long song
3. Growing Up Falling Down - This was the first time I'd heard Paul use his "old man voice", it blew me away and still does.
4. I Love This House - Wouldn't have fitted right on FITD, but if it had been made a couple of years earlier could have been a real highlight of Press To Play
5. Country Dreamer - I wonder if it was ever considered for BOTR?
6. Junior's Farm - Top rocker
7. Daytime Nightime Suffering - Would have definitely improved Back To The Egg
8. Mama's Little Girl - Can't remember when this was recorded, was it around the time of Wild Life? Would have sounded good on there.
9. Long leather Coat - Off the Ground really could have benefitted from this top tune!
10. Broomstick - Swap with Really Love You for an improved Flaming Pie

Just missed the cut-
Flying To My Home - Could have made the last third of FITD better
Secret Friend & Check My Machine - Maybe just a little too far out even for McCartney II

Junior's Farm was an A-side!

Good idea, though, my ten:

Oh Woman Oh Why
I'll Give You A Ring
Daytime Nighttime Suffering
Sally G
Cage
Check My Machine
Suicide
acoustic Country Dreamer
Lindiana
Little Woman Love
May sweet memories of friends from the past
Always comes to you, when you look for them

Oops, yes, of course it was! D'oh!

In that case I'm promoting "Check My Machine" to be included in McCartney II in its place!

(1) I Love This House-- just a great song. Love the tune, the lyric, Paul's vocal, the arrangement, and David Gilmour's guitar. This is a truly terrific, known-only-to-Macca-nuts-like-us song.
(2) Yvonne- I guess maybe because Eric Stewart co-wrote it? If he did? Did he? Anyway, this is a gorgeous, and rare melancholy (for Paul) ballad, with a great Paul vocal.
(3) Daytime Nighttime Suffering- not really a "lost" track, since it was included on WINGSPAN, and has gotten a bit of recognition over the years. But, a really catchy, cleverly arranged song.
(4) Sweet Sweet Memories- catchy as all hell. A gem.
(5) Ode To A Koala Bear- Like it a lot better than the A-side (Say Say Say).
(6) Simple As That- nice song with a good lyric.
(7) Broomstick- clever, catchy, tongue-in-cheek blues. Absolutely should have made FP over "Really Love You" or "Used To Be Bad."
(8) Little Woman Love- for the piano riff alone!
(9) Comfort Of Love- they should have found room for this on CHAOS. LOVE this tune!
(10) Why So Blue- and this should have made MAF. Somewhere. Somehow. Too good a song not to.

efghij, I'd put WHOLE LIFE and GIRLS SCHOOL In there, too. But, I thought we were going for B-sides and obscure, unreleased (or bonus-type) trax? GIRLS SCHOOL was the A-side, at least in the United States. I know the flip side became more popular (MULL OF KINTYRE)...

Don't forget Down By the River. Same Time Next year.
Love most of the songs already mentioned.
Would probably be a monster CD if he just released these tracks as a record.

hmmm...great minds 'n all...

how's this for a title...."TO 'B' OR NOT TO 'B' ?"

so far, include them all...and, i'm sure, a few yet to be mentioned, and i know i'd buy that album...

...and if he really wanted to make some noise with it...it'd be an easy 20-25 tracks (assuming there's more someone'll remember...or something...unknown)...put it out as a double...but charge only $9.99...and do it all for charity !!

if he can do a one-off (supposedly) just for the russians...he can find a charity close to his heart and easily cobble together a nice set of 'lost' children...do some good with all this

free publicity 'n all...
