as one who tries to adhere to an ethical dictum of not tampering with an albums track list...

i must say...

the inimitable JG is near spot on (again !! )...

an inclusion of FTMH and OELS..???

would've made FITD a very solid top 5 for me...

...and, seeing as how singles, b-sides and maxi-singles proliferated back then like tea party accolytes do now...i'd've probably got by with MOL and DBCL as quaint offsides, rather then the aforementioned duo...

however...

i quite like HMP...

so i'll, as some bug once chirped, let it be.

jus' sayin'.... :salute

After about 4 days ploughing through Tripping The Live Fantastic (wow that's a LOOOOOOOONG album!) I'm on the Unplugged album now, and it's got me thinking, is "Ain't No Sunshine" the only instance in Paul's solo career (i.e. NOT Wings) when he has allowed one of his band to take lead vocals on a song?

I'm struggling to think of any other occasions.

Hasn't Denny Laine done that a couple of times?

Yes, on Wings albums, I'm thinking of Paul's solo career though.

Inexplicable McCartney decisions Number 1 - Leaving Long Leather Coat off "Off The Ground"

What a great song, what a vocal!

Oobu, considering some of the stuff that made OFF THE GROUND, agree that "Long Leather Coat" should have made the cut. Even if you have trouble with the animal rights aspect of it (and I don't have trouble with it, myself), it's a kick-ass rocker with some twists and turns in the arrangement. He could be singing the phone book and it would sound great over that instrumental track bed.

That was my only thought about why it might have been left off, perhaps it was a case of including "Looking For Changes" OR "Long Leather Coat", but not both....

Once again I've thoroughly enjoyed Off The Ground, a couple of fillers (I Owe It All To You and Peace In The Neighbourhood), but overall I find it a really solid album, and the 80s production values have finally been shaken off, there's a real sense of warmth to the production (and yes, I bottled and skipped the Liverpool Oratorio album, my Maccathon feels such a fraud now! I will however do Ocean's Kingdom as I've not heard it before. Will probably do Standing Stone and Working Classical also as I quite like those.)

Hmmm...I LIKE those two songs, Oobu! My choice for "why did these songs make the album" would be "Mistress And Maid" and "Golden Earth Girl" (the egg shell seas makes me CRINGE when I hear it-- which was 20+ years ago).
