1974 Beatles Album

Postby jgkojak » Tue Feb 18, 2014 11:22 pm

So one fun game in this age of i-pod and self-made CD mixes is putting together feaux Beatle albums from various periods.

I think I have nailed a 1974 Beatle album...*
*I'm cheating a little on the timing of the Walls and Bridges tracks here... sue me (and I'll sue you...)

SIDE ONE
1. Band on the Run (McCartney)
2. I'm the Greatest (Lennon- Ringo lead)
3. Steel and Glass (Lennon)
4. Let Me Roll It (McCartney)
5. Sue Me Sue You Blues (Harrison)
6. Surprise Surprise (Sweet Bird of Paradox) (Lennon)
SIDE TWO
1. Jet (McCartney)
2. Try Some, Buy Some (Harrison)
3. Mrs. Vanderbilt (McCartney)
4. Nobody Loves You When You're Down and Out (Lennon)
5. Picasso's Last Words (McCartney- Ringo lead) -- you can't simulate this on a mix, unfortunately
6. Nineteen Hundred Eighty Five (McCartney)

This has some nice balance between each Beatle, and the songs are thematically quite similar...

The fade between the cheers of I'm the Greatest and the spoken intro to Steel and Glass are chilling

Interesting. I'm going to have to give this one some thought....

I like the idea of Ringo singing Picasso, good call....

I would probably want to bump it up to 7 songs per side, to make room for Bluebird and maybe #9 Dream.

Problem is each side is now pretty much too long -

ONE is 26 minutes and TWO is 29

Given some songs could stand an edit or two (Nobody Loves You...) you could get that down - but definitely no room for #9 Dream, Helen Wheels or Bluebird (the "first 3 out")
