Thematically Liverpool might be a forerunner to On my way to work but musically-not if ypu ask me
Anyway-after some four weeks break from New I listened through it the other day. This is a critical moment -will I like it as much after the first euphoria. answer is yes - New still-imho-is a master work and one of Pauls very best.

The production on it is rough as a badger's bum though....would have been good if he could have finished the track but maybe it wasnt meant to be.
Bit of focus-loss...mmm, wonder what caused that?

Yes, great track... Could have been a Jet kind of thing with a bit of arrangement...A horn section would fit perfectly on it.

I was at that gig, and I have no recollection of that song at all!!

Eddie- thanks for the demo of Backwards Traveller. I often feel that Macca demos are the portals which reveal the man's genius for a melody and melodic development. While this is evidently an embryonic version of a minor track in the canon, his playing around with melody and lyric,- as well as the cool rhythm changes- are a joy to behold- love it, love it! 8)
So I stood with a knot in my stomach,
And I gazed at that terrible sight
Of two youngsters concealed in a barrel,
Sucking monkberry moon delight.
