Very good album, suffers from not having edited out 2-3 tunes. A great album flows from track to track, creating a mood that does not veer off track, or disappoint.
Back to form in many cases, but not all.
Three and a half to four stars (not sure) listened recently though and enjoyed a lot of it...ran out of emotional steam though. "Really Love You" is an ideal B side, but has no place on
this album, and I could say the same for perhaps 1-2 other tracks.
One of my beefs with Paul is that he often includes 1-2 many tracks on an album, and the consequences are that the albums as a whole suffer. ( BTTE, London Town, Flaming Pie. Pipes of Peace)
I adore London Town ( bought it when I was 12, and a year and a half into THE FABS etc etc etc...) Love the production and precision and whimsy. Tight and "slick", and a pop gem is London Town.
( he could have made it better by losing Children Children ( not bad) and either Cuff Link or Girlfriend might have had to go if I were at the helm, although both have their own merits.
Just trim the fat Paul. He can be a little over ambitious on albums, no ???
Do we need to have " She's My Baby" on "Speed of Sound".....
I'd place NEW in the top 5. I think.
