Really, what makes Ram a perfect album is because almost any three consecutive songs show such an astonishing display of diversity of musical styles, instrumentation, vocal affect, use of harmony, percussion, and mood. You could make a case for McCartney's genius off any three consecutive songs on Ram, but I especially love Dear Boy, Uncle Albert, and Smile Away.

If I could only choose two songs, it would be heart if the country and monkberry...

Totally agree with the posts on "Winedark Open Sea." By far and away my favorite song on that album. Sounds very "live" to me, as well. Sounds like an unreleased song by Fleetwood Mac from the TUSK era.

Inspired by the talk of Winedark Open Sea, I've just searched it on Youtube and came across this, which I had no idea existed.

I don't quite know how to react!

I thought it was a fake until Paul's vocal came in. It's interesting to hear outakes like this especially when the final version goes in a different direction.

My 3 songs are coming up, temporary secretary, on the way.

That fast version of "Winedark Open Sea" is rather tuneless and pales in comparison to the album version. :?

I kind of like the fast version. It's almost like a funk-rock song. Paul's voice is fantastic. Would have been interesting to hear a completed version of this.

But the "official" live version is great, agreed.

James1985, I was very tempted to go "Too Many People" and "3 Legs" myself-- but "Ram On" is really just a filler song, no?

It's one of his most gorgeous little melodies for me

I agree with James. The Thrillington version in particular brings out the melody.
