Nice summary, Little Lamb. Definitely his "next step" after ELECTRIC ARGUMENTS.

Can't make up my mind on "On My Way To Work." At times, I like it. Or large sections of it. Then, there are times I think it is dreary and repetitive with that assembly line sounding percussion.

However, as I think I may have mentioned in my review (all those days ago), that assembly line sound might be INTENTIONAL, as part of the atmosphere of, you know, going to WORK. And, it can actually sound hypnotic when one is in the right frame of mind. Or wrong frame of mind. Or some kind of frame of mind.

And, then, I start reading probably way too much into it, thinking Paul is trying to write about how our humdrum, every day lives clash with our dreams, and our questions on what it's all about. As in, "in years to come/they may discover/what the air we breathe and the life we lead are all about/but, it won't be soon enough for me."

Of course, then I think, nah...it's just a pop song. It's NOT THAT DEEP!

I'm still on the fence...

Mattal, I think that's great way to view that song. Going to work can be a grind and the song reflects not only the repetitive work-a-day life, but also the dreams that have gone unfulfilled, as Paul writes. Nice observation.

Was having a think about where I felt "New" fitted so far in Macca album rankings, and came up with the following (I included Electric Arguments, but not the other Fireman releases, as I felt, rightly or wrongly, it was more of an "official McCartney" release)-

Ram
Band On The Run
Flaming Pie
McCartney
Memory Almost Full
Venus and Mars
Flowers in the Dirt
Chaos And Creation In The Backyard
New
McCartney II
Wings At The Speed of Sound
Tug of War
Run Devil Run
Off the Ground
Wild Life
Electric Arguments
Kisses On The Bottom
London Town
Red Rose Speedway
Give my Regards to Broad Street
Driving Rain
Choba B CCCP
Press to Play
Back to the Egg
Pipes of Peace

Man, any time I think about ranking Macca's albums I get a major headache. I think I have to put them into high to low sections.

Best work (not in order)
Band on the Run
Ram
Chaos
New
Tug of War
Flaming Pie

2ND tier still excellent
Electric Arguments
McCartney
Memory Almost Full
Flowers in the Dirt

3rd Tier still very good
Venus & Mars
Speed of Sound
Driving Rain
Back to the Egg
London Town
Red Rose Speedway
Off the Ground

4th Tier (good moments but he has done much better)
Wildlife
Pipes of Peace

5th Tier - I've tried. Still doesn't work for me
McCartney II
Press to Play

Even though I have enjoyed his albums of mostly covers it doesn't seem appropriate to include them with all of his own work
May sweet memories of friends from the past
Always come to you, when you look for them
And your inspiration long may it last
May it come to you time and time again

For me it is safer NOT to rank any of his albums because someone will always have something to say that I might not like or agree with and then . . .
Besides, I can't rank them but I do know which ones I don't like and lately they have been the ones most DO like. So I will not try to rank any albums nor any songs.

Thank you.

yeah...come on...what are you? some sort of gir...errr.

listen, lady G...you can say what you want here. some may agree. some may not. but all you have on a forum is your opinion. and because your words represent your opinion...you can never be wrong.

unless you like mac 2. then you'd be certifiable.

out with it...or off with it...is that what the Indians said...or were those pirates? :ymparty:
I want to tell her that I love her a lot, but I got to get a belly full of wine.

Red Rose Speedway, Flaming Pie, but. . . . but I don't especially like the WHOLE album but some songs from the albums and that is why I don't think I should even TRY to rank any albums. And because of my advanced age, I will have to go look at all the albums and decide. So come on people (hmm good title for a song) let me think about it.
