Macca Reissue program - Missed Opportunities

Like many here, I am pretty frustrated by the slow pace of the reissue program - I expected, based on the release schedule of the first 4 (Mcartney I and II, Ram, Band on the Run) that we would have had at least two others released by now.

And while I will be thrilled to have Rock Show and Over America fully restored, I wonder if Paul isn't missing the boat on some important anniversary/marketing opportunities.

Specifically:

Spring 2012, 30th Anniversary, Tug of War
If the idea is for Paul to showcase his best work first, surely this would qualify. This not only boasts a nice opportunity to remaster what has essentially been the same set of 16 bit mixes since its original CD release, but would include some highly sought after bonus tracks:
-The never on CD b-sides Rainclouds and I'll Give You a Ring
-A solo version of Ebony and Ivory
-multiple semi-famous interesting outtakes - Seems Like Old Times, Stop You Don't Know Where She Came From, etc.
-I assume some nice early takes of Here Today, demos of Wanderlust, Hear Me Lover (Pound Is Sinking), etc.

With the release of WOA, I wonder if we will get the logical extensions-

25th Anniversary Flowers in the Dirt, Summer 2014
-McCartney / Macmanus demos?

40th Anniversary Venus and Mars, Summer 2015

As for 2013, I'd love a London Town / Back to the Egg double release - as both records have been badly remastered for CD in the past.

random thoughts...I thought V&M was right around the corner. I hope it isn't going to be as long as you suggest.

and I am eagerly awaiting TOW. the sound isn't as bad as on other cd's. but ram turned out so great...I can't wait til the others get the same treatment.

as came up in an other thread...will we have to spend tons ($80+?) for WOA with the rockshow dvd? I heard paul was never happy with the original release...and i'm fine with him doing it the job it deserves....but don't ask for our shorts in the process.

Always dangerous to assume with these things, but WOA coming aout on its own allows the remaining six Wings albums to be paired up quite nicely for re-release.

The team behind it don't seem particularly concerned about anniversaries – Ram came out in 2012, could've been 2011. McCartneys came out in 2011, could've been 2010 for an anniversary. But agree that there is lots to look forward to on the TOW re-release when it eventually comes out.

Chris – I think I read somewhere that WOA will be a two-cd and a DVD at £12 or so like BOTR, but I can't remember where I saw that!

If I were making the schedule here is what I would do:

Spring 2012 - 30th Anniversary Tug of War / Pipes of Peace (co-release)

Christmas 2012 - Rock Show/Over America

Summer 2013 - Venus and Mars / At the Speed of Sound (to go with the Over America release a few months before)

(I assume fall/winter 2013 is for new Macca CD)

Summer 2014 - 25th Anniversary Flowers in the Dirt

Christmas 2015 - London Town/Back To the Egg

Summer 2016 - Wild Life / Red Rose Speedway

Fall 2016 - Press To Play 30th Anniversary (I feel old)

Christmas 2016 - Broad Street DVD and CD

That gets us up to date!

Realistically, I think the McCartney camp are primarily focusing on his most notable albums of his post-Beatles career. So deluxe versions of Give My Regards To Broad Street or even Flowers In The Dirt are not highly likely (and a fat chance for Wings Wild Life). I think Wings Over America is the most obvious remaining choice for the deluxe treatment. Tug of War seems like a fair bet as well; as does Flaming Pie, which was the shot in the arm his solo career needed.

Maybe he's taking this long cause he's been busy recording hin new album.

Oh, by the way, this low-speed he's taking is good enough for me. Since I want to have all this releases on the deluxe edition, which are expensive, and I still don't buy McCartney II and Band on the run I'm fine with it. And there's a strong rumour that Paul is coming back to my contry next May and I must be there, it's gonna be my 4th time!
