I suppose I've always felt that during a benefit concert, you play music that is thematic towards the cause. And yes, even if that means "playing it safe". If you're the headliner of a big concert like this, and people wait all evening to hear you perform, chances are they want to hear the big stuff, like "Hey Jude" or "Yesterday". It's not a great time to plug your newest music (although the Nirvana reunion could be considered an exception).
