Actually it is a complete rip off of Jackie DeShannon's "Put A Little Love in your Heart." I think Burt Bacharach wrote the melody.

Huh? What are you talking about? I know both songs quite well and to say Macca's is a complete rip-off is absurd.

Line by line comparison-listen to them both. "Put a little Love" is in parentheses following the matching lines from great day.
Rest my case, sugar pie honey bunch!

Think of your fel low man
(When you are wide a wake)
Lend him a helping hand
(say it for good-ness sake)
Put a lit-tle love in your heart
(Its go-ing to be a great day)

Can Chase do that? Don't they have to pay some type of royalty or something?

Oh yes, they are paying. just go to the link at the first article of this thread, it is mplcommunications.com, Paul's publishing company where he offers all the material for commercial or any other agreed upon use.

Seems he has turned around his thinking. If memory serves me correct (and it doesn't always!) many moons ago when he was in a group called The Beatles, didn't they say they would never do anything like that?

I guess nowadays, money is money and if one of his songs can be used to that end, why not?

As to Great Day sounding like Put a Littl Love in Your Heart is ABSURD. Doesn't sound anything like each other.

it was quite a few...decades ago

(and...at least one hyper expensive dee-eye-ee-oh-are-cee-ee !!... )

\:d/ if i'm not too mistaken...i believe he, through his publishing arm, has allowed this once or twice with his own stuff...not very often, though, it seems

I recall Macca saying some time ago that since his music (and the music of his peers) receives little to no air play on the radio (exept for the typical "greatest hits"), t.v. commercials actually get the music out there and heard by the masses, so it's a viable alternative.
