Local music...

Postby mi » Mon Jul 16, 2012 6:21 pm

Hi. I know most of you are from English speaking countries anyway, but I just thought it'd be nice to share kinds of music from different cultures, even in different languages. I'll start with something that would sound familiar to you anyway, see how you like this

absolutely fantastic ! thank you very much !! never knew this sort of thing even existed...would love to hear more...maybe, even, some original stuff that might be beatle-esque, thus more accesible.

me being a bit of a peter gabriel fan, he, as well as others, kinda challenges one to seek out i try to seek out other styles and world music...so this is very cool...thanks, again !

Oh I do have more, of both kinds actually. In fact, now that you mention it, I have the very thing you're after - that one was inspired directly by "Let it Be" back in 1973. There was a bitter war back then, I wasn't born yet but my father fought in it. One of our poets decided to translated "Let it Be" to lift up the people's spirits in these dark times. Here, see if you can hear "Let it Be"'s influence. I have also managed to translate it to English, so see what you make of it.

A small white ship in the horizon
shines bright beneath the heavy clouds
anything we wish, let it be
and if the candle light is shaky
and the evening sky is dark
anything we wish, let it be

Let it be, let it be
please do let it be
anything we wish, let it be

What's all the mourning all around me
distant drums and distant horns
anything we wish, let it be
May just one prayer from my heart
find its way through all of this
anything we wish, let it be

Let it be, let it be
please do let it be
anything we wish, let it be

In a peaceful shady street
a little house, its colours bright
anything we wish, let it be
summer's gone, the road had ended
let us see them home again
anything we wish, let it be

Let it be, let it be
please do let it be
anything we wish, let it be

And if a star shines right above us
through the darkness all around
anything we wish, let it be
So give us peace and give us strength
and to all those we love
anything we wish, let it be

Let it be, let it be
please do let it be
anything we wish, let it be

Love your videos Efrat, they're great. As for me, I'd like to share with you this video. This is Mexico's National Symphonic Orquestra performing one of our most representative melodies: Huapango, composed by Jose Pablo Moncayo. Hope you like it:

That was beautiful, I've never heard that tune before. Or the composer's name... maybe I should ask my mother about that, she knows all about classic music
