KISSES ON THE BOTTOM - VINYL

Has anybody heard why KOTB was released on double vinyl? It is average album - 49:08. For example, Flowers in The Dirt is 48:49 long, Off the Ground - 50:16, Flaming Pie - even 53:34 and have been issued on one LP.

I really like the sound of KOTB on vinyl and I am pretty sure that this is the best format for this album. But these 4 sides being so short (4/4/3/3 songs) make the album so fragmentary that it's hard to enjoy it. Even two tracks from deluxe edition were not added.

Music is compressed the more it is crammed onto one disc, sometimes compromising the sound. This happened often in the 90s as albums became longer (in my opinion, those releases sound just fine however). It depends on the recording, Pearl Jam issued Vitalogy on 1 disc back in 1994, but last years reissue was a 2lp set, I only have the original, so I can't compare, although I hear the reissue sounds muddy. U2's Joshua Tree and Achtung Baby were also reissued as double discs and I hear they sound better than the originals. I feel that Kisses benefits from the 2lp format due to the involved instrumentation of the songs which may be compressed otherwise. Hope I could help.

Oh yes...Remember those dreadfully thin sounding microgrooved K-Tel albums. 11 tracks a side.

i can honestly say that while i remember the 'k-tel' ads, i never bought one...always assumed they were not original artist/original versions...

still, it boggles the mind, when one considers how often the major co.'s skipped steps or used crappy methods for something that was not all that expensive in the first place...

i guess the truest answer is that bottom line profit has always had a better spot in the open marketplace over artistic achievement and quality control

I had the K-Tel early 80's release called "Radio Active." No bass or low end on the sound. Very good track listing though.
