Venus & Mars/Rockshow

I noticed that when Paul plays Rockshow (OTR Tour), he never gets to the "green metal suit - shoot up the city" line. Is he cutting it out for time or is he censoring himself because of the kids in the audience?

Good question. Maybe it isn't in style now and he is cutting it out because of that?

I think he just doesn't remember where he put his green metal suit.

am i missing something about the g.m.s./s.u.t.c. line ?

why would he censor it...?

i was always under the impression that V&M/RS was a bit of a condensed version of both, rather than both full on...

every clip i've seen indicates thusly...but, who knows...maybe its the more ever-present gun violence thing, eh ?

Many more people have nose piercings now. He doesn't want to offend them.

Mr. H, when Macca sings about "preparing to shoot up the city", he's not actually refering to guns as we normally think, but comicbook plasma rays or some such thing. There are pictures of our kid reading X-men comics in the early seventies and V&M has several references to them. Magneto, Titanium Man and the Crimson Dynamo were villians. In Rockshow, he mentions a Mademoiselle Kitty and yes there was a character named Kitty in X-men. In fact that whole spoken bit sounds very comicbooky, doesn't it? Mind you, I don't have any of this information on authority, but I too read those comicbooks way back when and the evidence is overwhelming: Paul was a bit of a nerd, I think. But your point about the violence is valid.

i actually had heard/read that he'd drawn on comic book characters of the time...just can't figure out why, because it was such a specific, fantasy reference, anyone would think he'd be censoring it now ... :-?

Now MrH, you know in these times somebody will be offended. It's hard to open one's mouth without somebody taking offense. I've been accused of that several times on here and I'm a nice guy. Just ask me.

I think he's just shortening it to make room for all the old, tired chestnuts he thinks we cant live without, instead of giving us precious nuggets of joy we havent ever heard or heard in a VERY long time. Of course, he's dropped it from the current setlist but I do love the entire Venus & Mars/Rockshow onslaught. When he did the short version in Nashville in 2010, I wanted to puke when it was cut so short!!
