Me and studio two

Hi all,

You might have seen on the webs that the couple of guys who wrote "recording the Beatles" have been doing some lectures inside studio two at Abbey Road recently. http://www.musicradar.com/news/tech/int ... oad-533359

Anyway, I managed to get myself into one of these on Saturday afternoon and I thought I'd share what it was like.

First of all, people had come from far. Scandinavia, the US, you name it.

So you walk in the entrance at Abbey Road, through reception and down a set of stairs on the right. Round another corner is studio two, the stairs to the control room on the right as you go in. They had all kinds of recording equipment and instruments out. The four-track that was the Beatles' mainstay, an Abbey Road-era mixing desk, the Day In The Life piano and the Steinway, which had a more honky-tonk sound.

The lecture went through the recording history of the whole studio, with about 30 mins in the middle just on the Beatles. When I was sitting there I tried to imagine them walking through the door the first time, or how what they brought into the studio must have changed from album to album.

Anyway, it was pretty special to stand where they recorded it all etc. These are just some quick thoughts -- I have some photos from my phone that I'll post but that might have to wait till I've got some time at the weekend.

Are these tours regular, do you know?

My nephew and I will be going to England May 2013 and I would DEARLY love to tour the studios. I guess I will find out when I get there.

I can't think of anywhere else in the world I would rather visit than Abbey Road. It's like Mecca to a Beatles fan (or Mecca to a Macca fan)!
