OK. Eddie wanted us to start discussing so here it goes. For the last 3 years I have simply not had the time to read a book for the simple pleasure of reading. Last year that changed as I read the Harry Potter series for the first time (yes, a little behind on the times I know) and was blown away by them.
Then I decided to read a classic children's series The Chronicles of Narnia. Just finished the last book and was curious to get anyone's feedback on either of these franchises. Personally I loved the first 5 Narnia books with The Lion the Witch & the Wardrobe, and The Horse and His Boy being particularly satisfying. However I completely disliked, almost loathed, The Magician's Nephew and barely like The Last Battle. I know Lewis was religious, but to me these two books were overly preachy and in some cases discriminatory against "darkies" as he called them. People across the desert (Arabs) pwere portrayed as worshiping a satanic/pagan god and participating in all sorts of immoral acrtivities.
If I could erase the last two books from my memory I would say it is one ofthe best series I have ever read.
Lastly, just revisitted an old friend "Catcher in the Rye". Use to read this every christmas but haven't picked it up in the last 5 years. But I have already commented on my love of this book in previous discussions.
