for a moment, i thought i'd happened upon a bit of a complete geek-style wishful thinking...that some musical nirvana had lighted upon my meager life...

while wanderng in Borders...i happened upon the new release cd section...and (gasp) the name ry cooder floated out on yellow print. hidden as it was, behind a sign, i pulled it gently out, thinking...'hmmm, wonder what ry is up to.." got that far when the rest of the albums top line became visable and i began to quiver just a little: The Chieftains and ry cooder !!!

now, the chieftains, and ry's, perambulations, especially with artists not necessarily of their ilk, have produced some enticingly splendiferous works...

the album is 'san patricio' and features a plethora of artists who dabble in mexican music...it tends to dwell on the mixing if irish immigrants and their music with their newfound lands in s.w. america and, then, n. mexico much as did a previous chieftains release, 'santiago' which focused on the music and traditions of Galicia, in n. spain.

really good stuff...tho...not nearly enough ry cooder for me...

R.E.M.: in honor of jjs..i thought i'd spend a week with some great lyricists... ...going thru 'em all, from 'chronic town' up to 'reveal': i'm actaully liking both it and it's predecessor 'up'

I really suggest you all to check out the new Camera Obscura cd called "my maudlin career". Indie pop from Glasgow. Really good stuff.
If you like cinerama, belle and sebastian, the sundays, cocteau twins....this is the one for you. Check out their whole discography.

Just getting into Bowie - Low, Heroes and Station to Station at the moment. All very very good.

Hearing Sound And Vision for the first time was one of those "why have I wasted 23 years on this planet without listening to this song" moments.
