I actually always loved cheese and onions. It was on one of my Beatles bootleg albums I got back in the 70's so for the longest time I thought it was a unrealesed Beatles tune. The version I remembered was faster and more raw and sounded much more like Lennon than this:

Of course it was a joke. The Rutles were a spoof of the Beatles. But what is amazing is the music Neil Innes did for both Rutles albums. It's not just parodies of Beatles songs. It actually mimics the sound and feel of Beatles music but with wholly original melodies. Some of the songs could even stand on their own as "Beatlesque" songs apart from the Rutles context. They are as much an homage as a spoof. Neil Innes is an underrated talent.

i totally agree with you mcclarke. i can appreciate what they did but i just dont wanna hear them here on macca. but it wouldnt really bother me. no offense to rutles fans intended.
