Underrated by whom? It's probably my favorite John-written ballad ever, or at least before In My Life. I think its universally considered a truly great song, no?

Well it is not one of those songs your hear very often in the radio!

It's certainly a good favorite to choose, especially from the first half of their career.

I'm in a big "first half of their career was more exciting/joyful/exuberant/mind-blowingly impressive than the second half" phase at the moment.

Me too. Especially with all the BBC stuff (10 discs!) and live shows and studio outtakes... Although the remasters have just made both halves of their career seem more amazing than ever!

I was just sitting here listening to the remastered version of the "White Album". Mind you, I'm fairly messed up on the bud, and oh yeah the Budweiser, However; be that as it may, I've just listened to "Back in the U.S.S.R" and to me and my ears at this moment it's as solid a track as was "A Hard Day's Night" for that album.
I go back so far... I'm in front of me!

So, was listening to the stereo remaster of this today. Just got some new earbuds for my ipod - a £50 model reduced to £15 in the sale - so I've been experiencing an increase in quality on the commute (my old ones were £15 sennheisers - a great value product, but my new ones are a cut or two above).

Anyway, so I Should've Known Better came on and Lennon's vocal is right up there, front and centre, double-tracked, sounding fantastic. But then for the middle eight, there's just the one track and you can hear every little half breath, smack of the lips, strain on the vocal chords. It's absolutely amazing. It's the closest you get to being in the booth, or isolating the track like they do on those brilliant Classic Albums docs. It blew me away.

Get your best headphones, put your 2009 stero remaster on and be reminded what an incredible voice John had
