"Surprise" by Paul Simon.

That's funny- I always took Surprise as Paul Simon's Press To Play- he really let's Eno get into it too much IMHO on some songs that otherwise would be fine (How Can You Live in the Northeast?)

I like it- thought it was a **** effort- just not my absolute fave. I'd rank it where I rank Driving Rain.

I certainly see where you're headed with the whole general feel...it's just that I really don't care for "Press To Play" much at all (save for 3 or so songs) while I obviously adore "Surprise". I love Eno on it, & feel the meshing is as seamless as the African influence is on "Graceland" for example. And I actually really dig "Driving Rain" myself (though I dig "Surprise" more), & it would pretty strong within the Macca albums I think are great...

Just as I'm obsorbing Brendan Benson's new album. I've now come across Matthew Sweet & Susanna Hoffs new album "UnderThe Covers Vol2".
So now I've been toggling back and forth listening to my "Non-Macca CD'S of the Moment"

Me too, and it's brilliant. Maybe not quite as filler-free as Lapalco, but better than Alternative....I think. Garbage Day might be the best thing he's ever done. Lot's of Macca-esque stuff. Lovely

this week...i'm running thru some blues stuff..

next week...peter gabriel finally puts out...b!t@h..'bout frikkin' time, too...
sadness in that it is not all new stuff...coolness in that he is interpreting songs that have affected him in some way: the snippets i've heard sound good

Hey Mike I tried to send you a message but for some unknown reason I can't. The question that I have for you is why did you put The Rutles on Macca-Radio when there are a couple of solo cd's from the boys that are not on.I know it's your site but to put The Rutles on before cd's like Ringo's Bad Boy, Old Wave, ,Liverpool 8(the whole cd) Johns Sometime In New York City,Live Peace in Toronto,Georges Dark Horse (the whole cd) I'm sure that I'm missing some but The Rutles over these I don't get it dude ?

the liner notes make it seem that, not only might he offer up another selection of re-invented covers...but, that he's working with those same artists who will re-invent some of his stuff...

his voice is in that same, dramatic, passionate mode as on 'us', 'ovo' and 'up'...

the song selections are intriguing...mesmerizing, even...

the use of more of a symphonic back-up astonishing, creates a unique ambience unlike most anything i've heard, from either him or others.
so far, a great album...but it makes me yearn for me to hear him tackle more of his own stuff...

think i'll pull out 'big blue ball' and mix them up a bit

I listened to Heroes, Flume and Street Spirit on a stream a while ago and thought he sounded great - especially Flume, a fantastic version.

Mr H, if you haven't bought the album Flume's original is on - "For Emma, Forever Ago" by Bon Iver, that should be the first thing you do tomorrow
