I know these are, seemingly, obvious choices...but...not so for me. Because...
There are a number of lesser Macca works that I am just not so crazy about...and...because the last Brian Wilson album of new original material (I use those terms because I was crazy about "SMiLE" but it was technically decades old) that I really dug came out in 1988. So...to me these weren't givens (especially since the Macca was a Fireman project, even though I dug "Rushes")...what they were was big news of great albums from two absolute giants.
"Electric Arguments"- The Fireman/ Paul McCartney...yup I am one of the folks here who believes this certainly belongs in a Macca top ten, & possible even a top five. It's truly that great.
"That Lucky Old Sun"- Brian Wilson. "SMiLE" was breathtaking, but it wasn't new material. I honestly didn't know if he'd ever hit one out of the park again. He did, in spades.
I don't know if reissues count but the live Neil Young & the Dylan box both had a lot going for them. I'm a big Randy Newman fan & a friend is burning off "Harps & Angels" for me soon, so we'll see if that gets added to this very short list.
Blessings!!
