1. Fleet Foxes - Fleet Foxes
2. The Raconteurs - Consolers of the Lonely
3. Vampire Weekend - Vampire Weekend
4. The Hold Steady - Stay Positive
5. The Last Shadow Puppets - Age of the Understatement

Honourable mentions to Glasvegas, Conor Oberst, Ray Lamontagne

Let down of 2008: Kings of Leon - Only by the Night. Who'd have thought they'd end up sounding like U2? Please stop chasing stadiums and get some southern-fried energy back for the next album please boys! (Apart from track 5, Manhattan, which is arguably the best thing they've done IMO!)

Other than some re-issues (U2 - Boy, October, War), I've only bought and heard two new albums this year and both were excellent.

Neil Diamond - Home Before Dark
Fireman - Electric Augments

Listening to Electric Arguments for the first time at the moment. It's fantastic so that would be in there - but leaving Paul-related releases behind...

The best thing I've heard this year is Pete Molinai Virtual Landslide. A friend recently gave me a copy and it blew me away like nothing else for quite some time. I've seen posters around London for this guy in pubs but never been. I will now...unfortunately that actually released in 2007 so not technically suitable for this topic.

I'll be back when I can think of something.........

Was Liverpool 8 released in 08?
Must've been early, feels older...

Add Liverpool 8 to my list along with,
Racaunteurs, some good tracks on that record...

Also, B.B. King's One Kind Favor,
features Dr. John on piano or keyboard
and Jim Keltner!

B.B. sings and plays wonderfully on this one.
