I never take these lists seriously. Next week there will be another list published completely different. Anyway, GM's number one in my book!!

GM is most certainly #1, but...I always thought the production credit, at least on the later period albums should have been "The Beatles & George Martin", or "George Martin & The Beatles". Where are T-Bone Burnett, and Nick Lowe I'd like to know!

Crummy list. Should be:
1. George Martin (their argument for #7 seems to be "didn't do much after the Beatles". Even if that was true, my friends, the Beatles is enough.)
2. Brian Wilson

All of the rest are also-rans. I am surprised to not see Quincy Jones or Stevie Wonder on the list. I'd knock Phil Spector off the list - a matter of personal taste, I guess. I just never embraced the whole 'Wall of Sound' thing, which often buried the beauty of a song. I wish he had not produced 'All Things Must Pass'. From interviews George gave later, I think George eventually came to wish the same thing. My favorite comment about Spector comes from George Martin in reference to the 'Let It Be' album. George wanted the credits to read "Produced by George Martin, overproduced by Phil Spector".

You can argue with me about why some of those 6 producers are ahead of George Martin, but the fact is most of those producers had a sound (as in 'one'). George Martin with the Beatles had many sounds throughout the 60's.

I can maybe understand Sam Phillips beating out George martin, but the rest of the list is rubbish.

and that whole murder thing...felony charges tends to knock people down a couple of notches (just ask OJ simpson or michael jackson)

All in all, George Martin was the best in the business !
There´s no doubt in my mind.

And making mine someone´s question in the Macca forum: Who makes those crummy lists ?? I mean the list was a great idea but the execution was.....
