wondered what happened with to the PM's...sad to see such abuse: it's like inviting a group of friends over for a party, and having someone try to steal them all away to thier own.

kinda frikkin' low...

i will/do miss them, tho (the PM's): it was a great way to blow off steam when the topic might not have been appropriate, or gotten too hot

good question, eddie. i always sort of liked to drop someone a hello, or a 'that was a smart thing to say"...it was even a way i got to know some regulars here a bit better. mike...any chance you will be restoring Pm's again? i'd love to see it back in action.

Good point all, especially like the "don't let the terrorists win!" It has been a while and I think I've come with a plan to make it possible. If I implement a group access level where people who qualify, will have access to PMs. I think the best criteria would be number of posts. So someone who sneaks in with just a few posts won't get PM access but someone with say over "X amount" of posts would.

Kick the idea around for a bit, I can't commit time to write the code for it just yet but I'll review the admin features of this board and see how much work it will take to modify the current admin features

I'm an admin at a smallish forum, (not the one under discussion) and I agree it's low to launch a campaign via PM's to bring members to a competing forum. Having said that, I probably wouldn't kill the PM function, even in a situation like this, as so many people enjoy it and like to discuss topics they are shy about bringing up on the board (yet) until they run it by a confidant or two. What I would do is ban the bad guy.. Which you did, but also you have brought the subject to light.. It's probably clear to your members that if this happens again.. you would appreciate being informed.

Geez, I go away for a few weeks and all sorts of saboteurs are unleashed. Well Mike, I believe this is the spot to converse about Paul/Beatles and after all this time the word is out that Macca-Central is the place to do so. It's good that the faithfuls are not easily swayed..

It's only on for Supporters or Subscribers. Merely registering will NOT get you the Private Messaging feature. You actually have to contribute something and PM's are just one of the perks.
