George needs a proper greatest hits compilation

Postby Awesoman » Thu Feb 28, 2008 8:13 pm

What do you think? Paul, John and now Ringo all have had their own greatest hits albums released in recent years complete with remastered tracks. Why hasn't this happened yet for George? As far as I know he only got two greatest hits compilations released that were split up between the 70's and 80's. There is still some quality George material that is out of print such as songs like "Cheer Down" and "Dark Horse" that could use a proper remastering. And although it is less likely to happen, they could also possibly use this as an opportunity to remix some of those Spector-drenched tracks off of All Things Must Pass (George himself considered doing this for that album's re-release).

The compilation could cover everything from his first solo LP all the way up to Brainwashed. And they could probably throw some bonus tracks in there as well such as "Horse To The Water" (his final recorded song) and maybe some unreleased stuff. Supposedly George said in one of his final interviews that he had recorded at least two albums' worth of material. Perhaps if this is true something could be salvaged from those recordings?

So what would your tracklisting be?

There's been numerous artists who have been a one hit wonder and released a "Greatest hits" retrospective...the dude who sung American Pie for example.
"Wings IV introduced Jimmy McCulloch, a spunky lead guitarist with grit, able to spur Paul on unlike any previous soloist. His debut track, the magnificent single `Junior's Farm', stands as one of Wings' finest emotional and technical releases."

Don McLean, he also had another famous song "Vincent".

Yep- George does need one. I would go for a single disc:

1. My Sweet Lord
2. What Is Life
3. Bangla Desh
4. Give Me Love
5. Dark Horse
6. You
7. This Song
8. Crackerbox Palace
9. Blow Away
10. All Those Years Ago
11. Got My Mind Set On You
12. When We Was Fab
13. This Is Love
14. Cheer Down
15. Horse To Water
16. Any Road
17. <<NEW PREVIOUSLY UNRELEASED SONG???>>>
18. Ding Dong Ding Dong

Now that George's back catalogue is being remastered and released on Parlophone (here in the UK) including the Dark Horse stuff, there is no reason why a definitive collection shouldn't be released especially as Ringo has just had one.
Maybe after the final two George albums "Dark Horse" & "Extra Texture" have been remastered then we'll finally get one (with hopefully one or two tasty morsels included)!
Man I could smell your breath a mile away.

Of course he needs a new one. Maybe one cd with his Beatles-hit and one with his solo??

I´m sure with the proper advertising he could sell a lot!!
Now junior behave yourself
