Show idea: Singles Only

Postby jgkojak » Fri Jan 18, 2008 6:29 pm

A show idea for Macca radio: singles only (from all 4 solo Beatles and the Beatles themselves).

What would make this show different?

1) Only official SINGLES mixes could be played, that means the original mono mixes from the 60s. That means, from later, things like the Letting Go of VM/RS singles mixes, the Figure of Eight single remix, etc. Its OK of course to also include songs like Jet that are the same in both formats.

2) It would focus on some hits, but not SUCH familiar hits (there are something like 130 Top 40 hits among the Beatles and solo plus countless uncharting singles).

3) It would let us all hear some interesting mixes.

This is spurred by my recent download of the Letting Go single mix.

This is an interesting idea. You could also include Press & Pretty Little Head which had totally different vinyl 7" mixes to the CD album Press To Play.

Good stuff....maybe it could replace the dreaded karoke hour.
Well maybe not....maybe people dig Karaoke radio.

That idea kinda bores me. Sure, you'd get a few cool mixes in there you don't hear much, but you'd also have to hear all the generic hits for the six-thousandth time. I'll pass.

Agree on it potentially being boring-- so... how about the ONLY songs played are unique mixes or less common songs:

Mono mixes of official 60s Beatle singles (many of these would be interesting)

Ban anything that 1) hit the Top 10 and 2) is the same on both LP and single

Dumped the MACCA Karaoke hour Saturdays a few weeks ago. Singles Only is a very nice format and well suited for the theme format. I just have to make sure I can find all the single mixes. I've got some pressing things on the go right now but certainly this show will top the list. The bootleg show will come as well, it's just organizing all the boots, currently all on CD and it would take weeks to rip them to the mp3 format needed. Then will have to go and fill in all the info, title, artist etc. for each song, otherwise garbage will show up in What's Playing. This is really the only reason it hasn't been done to date. I'll get at it someday :)

I quite like the idea of a "Singles Only" programme, but the "bootleg show" I find even more exciting :cheers I'll really be looking forward to that.

I also think it was a good idea to take off the "karaoke hour" on Saturdays - the excitement had been wearing off a little, as far as I am concerned. And especially when it's supposed to be "Macca all day and all nite" I prefer hearing his voice rather than mine

Rock on, Mike :!:
It's the start of a journey
To a much better place
And this wasn't bad
So a much better place
Would have to be special...

i assure you...if you had the unfortunate opportunity to hear me sing along with his fine music...karaoke hour would have been cancelled long ago.

Mike- an idea for the Bootleg show --

Ideally it would be like Maccaradio currently operates- i.e. Title: Waterspout, Album: Cold Cuts, etc.

But it could also be just an entire CD ripped with the title "Bootleg Hour, Cold Cuts" and not individual tracks labeled. You could easily post a tracklisting for this week's "featured" boot on the forums-- then we could tune in during one of the times its played-- this would cut down on your work and also be quite interesting. I imagine you have access to some interesting boots that many of us have never heard.
