Please Please Me (1st album)

Thoughts? Fave tracks?

(I think I'll do these over time for all the albums - as there isn't an equivalent here . . .)

My faves are I Saw Her Standing There, Ask Me Why, and Baby It's You.

I am less keen on Love Me Do, PS I Love You, and Do You Want To Know A Secret, because they seem to just have the same verse repeating all the time.

I think ISHST is the only song on PPM that doesn't sound aged now.

PPM isn't my favourite album, because the J&P songs are not as good as the covers.

Oh man, Brains. I think they are very strong for the time. ISHST, Misery, PPM, DYWTKAS, and There's a Place are just awesome. Of course, it's just my opinion, I could be wrong. [;)]

DYWTKAS and p.s i love u r also good songs of of this album but i dont really like this album. i like there later stuff (1966 +) alot more[8D]

Song-wise, I prefer their later songs. But for good, well-rounded albums, I prefer the earlier ones. Kinda evens out over all . . .

The songs are nice, for beginning songwriters (I don't think they had written that many songs back then). But on With The Beatles they'd become much much better.

I wasn't born yet in 63 (82), but from what little I know from that time, the Beatles were absolutely the best group, by far. Somehow the world had stopped rocking like they did in 1957. And only in comparison with their later albums, PPM is a bit of a disappointment. Or no, that's not the right word. It's just the debut album of a group that had yet to show its true greatness.

Well, that's only to be expected. Debut albums are rarely among a group's very finest. Exceptions include:

The Police - Outlando's D'Amour. Lots of amazing songs, a great start to a great career. Roxanne, Can't Stand Losing You, lots of greats.

Foreigner - Foreigner. The best debut album by anyone. Ever. Period. So much variation between mainstream and non-mainstream, ballads and rockers . . . great.

PPM is a good album. Not great by any means, but good. do you want to know a secret has always been a fav of mine.
