Ah, I'm a huge Lennon fan, so I have some suggestions for you.
You can go with the party line, basically Yoko approved stuff like The Ballad of John and Yoko or Lennon by Ray Coleman.
Or you can branch out and read some rather interesting stuff like:
Dakota Days by John Green
Loving John by May Pang
John Lennon, My Brother by Julia Baird
John Lennon In My Life by Pete Shotton
A Twist of Lennon by Cynthia Lennon
The Last Days of John Lennon by Frederic Seaman
I'd say read them all. I prefer the last six books, they are more honest, I feel.

Right. I won't get "The Lives Of JL" then. JL "In My Life" and "My Brother" are both on the list. Which is better out of those two, do you reckon?

Ah, Julia's book is very interesting as it goes into John's immediate family history. Particularly these two sisters, Julia and Jacqui. It is also cowritten by Geoffrey Gulliano, but it seems to be mostly Julia Baird's story of her brother and the Lennon family. I personally loved this book, as not one interviewer ever asked John about the girls and I always wanted to know about them.
Pete's book is fun and a look at John from childhood to death from Pete's contact with him. Some very funny stories in there.
Anyway, both are good choices. Enjoy.

Pete tells these stories about when they were kids getting in trouble at school. He's got funny stories about masturbating and sex. Pete tells about the Beatles, John's financial help to him and Yoko.
Hunter Davies book, The Quarrymen, is good too. That book follows the old band members after they left the band.

He does indeed share John's birthday. He'll be 21 in october. I am hoping and praying that I can get the book to him by then . . . along with all the episodes of "Old Harry's Game" that I've copied. It is such a laugh, OHG - a radio comedy, set in hell. I kid you not! (Bet you didn't know God's first name was Nigel!)
