I'm sorry to say 5 is too small of a number.
From when I graduated high school (1988) music has tanked incredibly. And I shutter to even use the label: music.

Cases in point:
1. Fabricated pop (N'SYNC, Spice Girls, Brittney and all those clones) IS NOT music, it is product.
2. Gangster rap/ rap in general is a bunch of uneducated big mouths. Not music. Just becuase you can rhyme the word f*ck with other words DOES NOT MAKE YOU A GENIUS.
3. R&B - while classic R&B artists are great, soulful, talented & wonderful todays "R&B" artist just sing about getting laid and treating women like trash. At least "back in the day" when they talked about sex they had more class to "allude to it" instead of giving us graphic desciptions.
4.Grunge - how many other Pearl Jams do we need? Creed, Alice in Chains, etc.... so interchangable!
5. Any music that is self promoting. Why is ranting on about what you wear, how great you are and your street cred considered music? I don't recall any Paul McCartney songs containing lines about him gang banging, his bling or how great he is (we all know that already)
6. Recycled music. What teenagers see as "new" sounds are just old sounds cleaned up and put on a new plate. Didn't Bowie do glam & the like before Marylin Manson?

As the BARE NAKED LADIES (not a bad band) say: It's all been done before!!

I must say I can't stand U2, Queen, Rolling Stones, Robbie Williams and Shakira. Those were the first 5 that came to my mind.

I agree with U2, (probrably the most overrated band in music history). I could also live without Robbie and Shakira, but Queen and Stones are pretty important I think, and I couldn´t do without those, especially the stones...

I couldn´t care less for

1. Boys bands
2. Girls bands
3. Old dinos of HMetal such as Judas Priest, Poison and a lot of other bands. Most of them are long gone, some try a comeback.
4. Rappers - in groups or individually
5. Anything I can label "soft pop".
