I'd agree with that....I always thought his drumming in general was overlooked unfairly. I particularly like his playing on things like the "Hard Day's Night" album...nothing terribly flashy, but it swings with a feel only our lad Ringo has.

funny thing about drums...in the 70's when there were amazing drummers all throughout the land, capable of soloing for an hour...not many of them could keep beat. mr bonham being one of the exceptions.

it was as if, generically speaking...drummers were either flashy, with drum fills everywhere...or they just kept beat.

peart (from rush), moon (who), bonham (zep) were all amazing. but the two pillars of back-beat strength that deserve to be named with these greats are starr and watts (stones), IMO.

Absolutely....I'd add Alan White (yes) to the first group, and Jim Keltner (sessions) & Hal Blaine (sessions) to the latter. Neither Keltner nor Blaine get much press because they never made their mark with any particular group, but both were amazingly steady and inventive in the Starr/Watts tradition.

I love what Ringo played on "Long, Long, Long," and he was pretty nifty on "Long Tall Sally" as well, to name two more.

Let's face it, he had many great performances.
