The Final Cut

This movie came on late on IFC and I found it kinda thought provoking. Short synopsis: In the near future, parents can buy a device that is implanted in their unborn child's brain that is a sort of 'life recorder'...all things the person sees thereafter are recorded on the chip and can be used after death for rememberance purposes. Robin Williams stars as a 'cutter', a person who edits these memories into a short memorial to be played anytime, including all important life events and editing out the more unseemly parts.

If you think about it, that would be very useful for some things, and very disturbing for others...

Anyone else seen this movie?

haven't seen it...or heard of it to be honest. but, being a late night tv junky...i will keep an eye out for it on ifc.

If you like thought-provoking, well made movies, then yes. I stumbled into it about 10 min. into the picture and could not pull myself away...just thinking of all the things we do and say and see being on some chip in my head...the kicker is, I would never see it, outside of the original experience. The chip is not accessible until you die. Seems it would be a good way to solve your own murder, huh? But as far as the movie goes, that line of thinking doesn't get explored. It's more about the moral dilemma of people who do that work, seeing all of a person, warts and all. It co-starrs Jim Caviezel (sp?) and Mira Sorvino.

Comes on again August, 25, at 1:25 am EST on IFC.

funny you say that. nearly everyone i know could care less whether or not a movie makes you think. i often wonder why no one writes smart dialogue anymore. glad to have a cerebral brother among us.

i appreciate your concern. any time you come accross a flick you feel is smart...don't hesitate to recommend. the world is filled with mindless movies. but i'd hate to miss out on a good one because i didn't know it was there.
