I recall someone has stated that in this recording Paul played guitar and George took over the bass. I wish I could remember where I've got such info. BTW John played guitar and trumpet (!), with Mal Evans also playing a wind instrument (saxophone perhaps).

YEP ! George was a great string player....

BTW, from one of Mark Lewishon's Beatle books (the one w/ a chrolology of events) - it says JOHN played bass on Helter Skelter !

Bass Lines

Postby hofner64 » Mon Apr 23, 2007 4:42 pm

Too many to choose from, however, the bass line to Something takes the song to another level. Gearge was in print at the time calling it "lead bass", but I hope he came to understand how much it contributed to his wonderful tune.

I wasn't aware George said that of Paul's playing on something.
If that is a fact shame on George.

i agree mr guru, sir. at times george certainly said exactly what was on his mind. he may not have meant any harm, but then he may have. but i hope he came around with the thought that the song was served much better with the bassline as it appeared on the album.
I want to tell her that I love her a lot, but I got to get a belly full of wine.
