Don't get me wrong jules....I like Roger Moore just fine....it's not his fault they wrote stupid Bond scripts for him. The southern sheriff he kept running into in the later movies was just stupid. My fav Moore film was Man with the Golden Gun.......which is alway listed as his worst film...but I thought it was great. And you still can't beat Moore as the Saint.

But....you must admit you kind of went off the deep end with your review of Casino Royale. Sure, it had no plot...but a lot of action movies have a thin plot. The action was great. Craig was totally believable as Bond. Sure, he was rough around the edges...but don't forget....you just don't become James Bond right away. He would have spent all his time up to this point in the Army...from there into intelligence training. Not a lot of free time learning how to make a martini and how to dress and order champagne and foie gras from room service. This was his first outing as Bond. I'm sure in the next few films he'll be the Bond you are used to seeing all these years. In the meantime. Casino Royale was a pretty darned entertaining movie. :)

2 of 3: You say that the Sheriff was a stupid character. He apperared in Live and Let Die (the first Moore film, 1973) and The Man With The Golden Gun (1974, second Moore film). And you say TMWTGG is your favourite.
I'll stand by my CR opinions. I don't see Craig as Bond. The whole point of seeing ANY film for me is to watch a story being told. This film didn't have one (or none that I could understand.) Hated it, hated it, hated it, yuck. I'm feeling depressed and let down just thinking about it.

Are you talking about CR or the new Robin Hood.

Ok, you didn't like it....but as you've read the books, as I have....then you must admit this is closer to the Bond in the books than anything Moore got a chance to play.

A tougher Bond: fine. Daniel Craig's Bond isn't the Bond of the books. Not at all. Contrary to popular belief, there WAS humour in Fleming's writing, although not as much as in the Moore films. And I'll admit, those Moore films were OTT and camp but they were so, so much FUN. I loved, adored and cherished those films. The books were a lot of FUN too. FUN: that's what I miss.
All there was in CR was dreariness, seriousness, blondness, sweariness, down-to-earth relentless, grey, lower class, unsmiling, chavvy, pikey, nasty, unglamourous, never ending, unintelligable rot. Oh, gosh! That outpouring makes me feel so much better.

rectum....damn near killed him! (old joke  )

...and jules....after reading your description of the movie, I can only assume you didn't really see it. Besides...if the blond hair bothers you, then there's no hope at all really....you're looking for reasons not to like this film.
